Name Theory: Name as Mnemonic

The perfect character name helps tell the character’s story. The name helps give the reader a sense of the character’s personality, a sense of the story’s time and place. The name is a mnemonic which helps readers remember the character’s story.

If I say Ron, you may guess the story I’m thinking of.  Or if I say Jane you may guess her story.

Or you may guess another story, because that one holds more meaning for you. Still, the name triggers your memory of character and plot.

Consider this when you name your characters. Make a choice that is memorable.

Names are not story, but they are important tools in telling a memorable story.
