Name Theory: An Anniversary is a New Beginning

I’ve been writing this character naming blog for a year now, and I’m sort of amazed that I can still riff on this subject. Granted, some of my posts reiterate what I’ve already written, and other posts are more focused generally on writing rather than specifically on character naming.

Through all of this, though, I hope I’ve done some good and helped some of you name your characters or to think about naming in a new way. But maybe it’s time I asked you.

So, what do you think, y’all? Has what I’ve written over the last year helped you, or inspired you, or entertained you?

Or is there something more I could do for you?

Is there a genre you’d like me to “name” for, so you can get my take on it? Is there a subject that I’ve skipped over in naming, or something you think I haven’t delved into enough? Do you think I should do posts on other writing related subjects, rather than focusing on character naming?

I have some ideas of my own, but I’d like to know what my readers would like to see. After all, I should be writing for you and not just for my own selfish need to see my words “in print”!

So, shall I continue this year with my Monday Character of the Week based on a previous naming I’ve done, and my Wednesday Name Theory riff inspired by the Monday post, or shall I shake it up a bit?

I’d like to invite you all to send me new character namings for this new year, but I’d also put this to you: How about renamings?

One of my ideas for this year is to alternate Monday posts with renaming self-published books’ character names. I’d give the same format of information about the character, go through the process of offering my list of suggested names, and then tell you what the writer had named the character.

I’m also considering adding a page to my site with a breakdown of my guidelines for naming. Do you think this is a good idea?

Let me know: What I’m doing right, what I could improve, what you’d like to see. Let me know how I could continue to inspire you.
